First published by Barbara Tyler in a small Kentucky paper, this is the opening of a now infamous humor column that may have appeared at some point in your e-mail inbox. The column was so highly circulated that an editor at a national women's magazine invited Barbara Tyler to become a writer for that magazine.

What made the artcle so popular? Thousands of readers could relate to the high expectations surrounding the holidays - an the contrast between the ideal and what takes place in our own homes.
