I recently discovered that my three-year-old son, who remembers the gifts he received last Christmas and knows the locations of the coolest light displays in our neighborhood, had no idea whose birthday we celebrate at Christmastime. He's heard about the real meaning of Christmas, but the tangible traditions of the holiday make more sense to him than the abstract significance of Jesus' birth.
