A Stay-at-Home Parent's 'Vacation'

Holiday Crowds at Home Force a Break From the Routine

We're used to running the show, but at the holiday break, get ready for some family togetherness.

This week between Christmas and New Year's is the real holiday for me.

My husband is on vacation from work, my kids are off school, and my son in college is home for break.

My carefully crafted schedule has been thrown away with the Christmas wrap, we're all sleeping a little bit later in the morning, staying up late watching movies, and spending the days shopping and baking cookies.

However nice that is, after a few days I start to feel antsy. I have this stay-at-home mom thing down to a science, and with everyone home and underfoot, I'm not getting laundry done on schedule, I don't have enough food in the house, and every time I try to clean the bedrooms, there's someone still sleeping in one of them.

Weeks like this are good, though. Getting away from our routines makes us appreciate them more.

I'm hoping that by Jan. 2, when school starts back up and everyone gets back to their own routine, I'll have a renewed zest for mine.

Don't forget - implementing your New Year's resolutions is only days away!

Happy New Year to all Suite 101 readers! I hope you've enjoyed your holidays as much as I have!
