Taking care of your family as a stay-at-home mom presents daily challenges to maintain mind/body/spirit health and wellness.

As a stay-at-home mom (SAHM), your job description includes caring for your children, being a homemaker, and creating harmony and balance within yourself, your family, and your environment. Because you often have little personal time and have to deal with particular stressors as a SAHM, you must choose consciously and holistically in order to live healthily and find time for your own personal purpose.

Keep Your Thoughts Positive

The mental chatter of a SAHM involves thoughts about juggling various aspects of personal and family life. Begin the day with positive affirmations to avoid falling into the "life is a burden" trap. Because your thoughts ultimately create your reality, it's important to think about what you desire as a SAHM: personal and family love, abundance, joy, health, peace, and protection. Create an affirmation list and post it on your refrigerator or in your car to remind yourself to keep your thoughts healthy and focused on what you truly want and deserve. Remember to express gratitude for all the blessings you already have in life.

Heal Your Emotions

The feelings associated with being a SAHM can range from isolation and resentment to satisfaction and relief. Be sure to do a feelings check every day, decide if there is any negativity, and take measures to reset by healing your emotional state. For example, if you feel taken advantage of as the neighbor who has the time to run errands for others, you need to be assertive and set boundaries to avoid the risk of an energy drain and possible stress-related health problems.

Maintain Physical Well-being

Stay-at-home mothers usually have small children with them every hour of the day. To work out for thirty minutes; to devote a half-hour to conscious, nutritious eating; and to sleep soundly for eight hours straight are all daunting tasks for the SAHM. Being resourceful and participating in social networking can be useful in such situations. Research local mommy and me exercise/stroller classes, join a mom's club to share healthy, frozen meals, or enlist the help of a babysitter to entertain your child for a couple of hours while you do housework during the day instead of at night.

Develop a Spiritual Practice

Before you became a SAHM, you may have had the time and energy for a consistent spiritual practice. Transitioning to full-time mommy and homemaker can shift priorities, leaving spirituality and religion on the lower end of the list. If you've managed to continue attending a weekly service, use childcare services so that you can remain fully present and engage in active listening. Allow yourself to receive insights and messages, spiritually connect, and bond with your community. If you value spirituality, then incorporate your faith into a daily routine and teach your children how to fill their lives with spirit and love.

Improve Yourself

You are on a personal journey in life. Develop your mission as a SAHM to include personal and family growth and improvement each day. You may make mistakes, but you can learn from them and evolve. As an individual, your personal quest involves maintaining your own identity and following your passions and purpose. As a SAHM, you also have the ability to role model for young, impressionable minds. Use this gift to teach your children about mind/body/soul wellness, personal growth and development, and conscious, connected living.

You have the responsibility as a SAHM to take care of yourself, your family, and the sacred space you call home. Honor yourself by living holistically and choosing purposeful and insightful thoughts, feelings, and actions.
