Offering to take off some domestic load is probably the ideal Valentine's Day gift for a stay-at-home mum.

Being a stay-at-home mum is one of the toughest, most challenging yet underrated jobs in the world. These women work tirelessly day and night to keep the family going and they deserve nothing but the utmost respect from their spouses.

Husbands who have not done their share of the housework can make up for it this coming Valentine’s Day by offering to ease their wives’ domestic burden. Here are some Valentine’s Day gift ideas for stay-at-home mums.

Give Mum a Day off

Take a day off from work so that you can give your spouse a day off at home. Not sure what to do or how to begin? Ask her to give a list with simple instructions first. There will be plenty to do – getting breakfast ready, feeding the kids, washing the dishes, doing the laundry, vacuum the carpets, food shopping, cleaning up the kids, etc.

While you’re busy with the new role, get her out of the house to do whatever she wishes to do – get her hair done, do some shopping, meet up with friends or just have some quiet time on her own. This will be a much appreciated treat.

Stretch Valentine’s Day throughout the Year

The display of love and affection should not be limited to a certain day of the year. It should be stretched all year long. So the offer to help with housework should come everyday, even if it’s only an hour everyday. A little help is better than no help at all. If the thought of doing housework everyday is a tad daunting, offer to do it every other day or on weekends.

Hire Help

Those who are totally out of their league when it comes to housework and caring for the children can hire a maid for a day to do all the necessary cleaning jobs in the house. Send the kids to an occasional care center or get a babysitter to look after them if they are too hard to handle. Getting help with childcare is also a great idea if husband and wife plan to have an evening out all by themselves to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Again, hiring help should be done from time to time throughout the year so that the two of you can have some quality time together.

A Kitchen Makeover

A stay-at-home mum spends a great deal of her time in the kitchen cleaning raw food, cooking meals and washing kitchen utensils and dishes. Make sure everything in the kitchen – refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, stoves, microwave, hot water boiler and other kitchen equipment – works efficiently and safely. If money is no object and the kitchen is due for a makeover, hire professionals to reorganize the kitchen. It will be one of the best gifts a mum can ever wish for.

Facial and Spa Treatment

Pamper her. She needs and deserves it. Get a home facial and spa treatment kit for her. Invest in a book on home massage therapy so that you can learn to give her massages and foot rubs regularly. Another option to let her de-stress and relieve tension is by treating her to some soothing professional spa therapy. A few hours in a spa center can do wonders to a woman’s body, spirit and mind.

A husband’s willingness to share domestic chores is the best gift for his wife, not only on Valentine’s Day but every day of their lives together. So make a pledge to help out more at home, get outside help if necessary, make sure the kitchen is a work-friendly and safe place as well as pamper her occasionally to show her your love and devotion.
