Creative Christmas Gift Wrapping: Use It
One environmentally friendly way to wrap your Christmas gifts this year is to present them in something the recipient will use again. An interesting or festive basket, a large glass jar with a pretty lid, or a craft store wooden storage box painted by a child are some ideas for things that will be used again. If items are large, they can be presented in Christmas plastic storage containers lined with tissue paper and topped with oversized bows.
Sew What?
Are you a sewer? If so, consider creating Christmas wrapping material out of old fabrics. Simply place a gift item in the center of a large piece of fabric, gather the fabric and tie it with a long piece of ribbon (trimming the exposed ends with pinking shears) for a beautiful presentation. You could even insert grommets around the fabric edges and weave ribbon through the holes to enclose. Even if you aren’t a sewer, you can use fabric glue and create patchwork crazy quilt wrapping out of mismatched fabric remnants purchased inexpensively from a fabric or craft store.

Or, save the Sunday comics for a few weeks and use them to wrap Christmas gifts for children. Another creative way to present a gift is in a reusable grocery bag lined with tissue paper or fabric. All of us may not be organized enough to save wrapping paper we receive, fold it and reuse it the following year, but making an effort to cut down on purchasing more paper is a gift for Mother Nature!
