Easter egg decorating with paints, stickers, everyday items and natural ingredients.
Decorating Easter eggs can bring out the artist in anyone. Easter egg coloring is the perfect opportunity to let your kids get creative. Don’t stop at dipping eggs in pre-packaged dyes. If that’s your tradition, do it, but add another method or two this year to experiment with different materials. Watch while your kids come up with new, cool ways to get creative with eggs! The surface of an egg is a perfect palette. Think of your hard-boiled Easter eggs as little canvases and let your budding artists go wild with different media and all the art supplies you have in the house. First dye your eggs in whatever background color you choose, let them dry, and then paint, paste and color them for the most artistic Easter basket. New and creative egg coloring techniques are a fun Easter craft for groups of children at a party or Easter egg hunt. Water Colors and BrushesGet out your water colors and fine paintbrushes and paint some pastel designs on your eggs. For a sturdy stand to hold the egg while you paint it, use an empty toilet paper tube. Prop the egg on top and decorate. Use different brushes for different techniques. Tie-Dyed EggsGive your Easter eggs a tie-dyed effect: Squirt or drizzle various colors of tempera or acrylic paint onto a paper towel. Don’t overuse the paint. You only need a small amount. Place an egg in the center and carefully wrap the paper towel around egg, pressing gently. Remove the paper towel carefully. The egg will look like it was tie-dyed. Allow it to dry well. Marbleized Swirled EggsMix 1 tablespoon food coloring with 1 tablespoon vinegar in a cup. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1/2 cup cool water. If necessary, add a little bit more water, so the liquid will completely cover an egg when placed in the cup. Make different swirled colors in different cups. Gently lower an egg into a cup using a spoon until the egg is completely covered by the liquid. Remove the egg immediately and pat dry with a paper towel. Your egg will have a marbleized look. Toothpick PaintingUsing acrylic paint, use a toothpick to paint on small, detailed designs such as flowers, stars, swirls, butterflies, and other designs. Sponge PaintingFor a sponge painted look, use an old toothbrush, dip it in acrylic paint and dab the paint onto the eggshell. Decoupage EggsCut a small picture out of paper and paste it on the egg, using all-purpose glue. Press out any wrinkles by rolling over it with a toothpick. Wipe off any excess glue with a damp paper towel. Using a sponge brush, apply decoupage medium (such as Mod Podge) ont the egg. Let dry. Repeat with another layer of decoupage medium. While the decoupage medium is still wet, you can sprinkle on glitter for a sparkle effect. Rubber Banded EggsWrap rubber bands around the eggs, dip in dye, let dry and then remove the rubber bands. StickersUse stickers that have cute shapes - the little gold stars that teachers use are nice. Stick on them on your eggs, dip in dye, allow to dry and then remove the stickers.
